The black teen who escaped a mob of whites in Howard Beach before they allegedly attacked another black man, causing his death, had pulled a knife on the gang before fleeing, Special Prosecutor Joseph Hynes said Tuesday.
In the course of pretrial questioning, Timothy Grimes told prosecutors he pulled the weapon on the baseball-bat wielding gang Dec. 20 when he and two black friends were surrounded outside a Queens pizzeria, Hynes said.
