Fred Astaire was to be celebrated in July at the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs. Now, said Director Alisa Moore, "It will be a remembrance."
Astaire, who died Monday, had developed some strong local ties in the 1970s and '80s, mostly around the Saratoga Springs area. For example, in 1981 Astaire made the movie "Ghost Story" in Saratoga Springs with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and the late Melvyn Douglas.
And for years, as a thoroughbred horse owner, the famed dancer attended the August meet at the Saratoga Race Course. Later, he occasionally watched jockey Robyn Smith, 35 - whom he married in 1980 - ...
