Northfield resident Brendon Etter has set himself a peculiar challenge: write one play a day, every day for 366 days.
Perhaps this sometimes-masochistic practice is his way of making up for lost time. Etter said he has been calling himself a writer since he was a child, but hardly ever wrote until 286 days ago, when he posted play No. 1 on his website.
Etter's skit-style playwriting is just one local example of a nationwide trend of short-play festivals, one-act competitions and other theater recalibrated to suit a short-attention-span world, with some plays as short as a TV commercial.
