Jan. 25--SANFORD -- A thick layer of fresh topsoil will be dumped on acreage where a new Seminole County elementary school is planned, and school-district officials hope it will bury concerns about arsenic contamination beneath the ground.
Thousands of truckloads of earth will be required to cover the 15-acre site of the planned new Midway Elementary to an average depth of 2 feet.
It could take months and cost $1 million or more.
"It is another layer of insurance that children aren't going to ingest any arsenic in the dirt or water," Deputy Superintendent George Kosmac said.
