An Internal Revenue Service report determined that the PTL ministry's tax exemption for 1980 to 1983 should be revoked because it gave Jim Bakker an "unreasonable and excessive" salary and PTL did not qualify as a church, USA Today reported Friday.
In another report on the crumbling Fort Mill, S.C., television empire, the Washington Post said Friday that former PTL board members received tens of thousands of dollars in fees, bonuses and gift contributions while authorizing bonuses and salaries for Bakker and his wife, Tammy, totaling $4.9 million during the last four years.
