Drug Enforcement Administration agents received cash payments from a Swiss bank account during a White House-directed effort to find U.S. hostages in Lebanon, a key witness in the Iran-contra affair testified Tuesday.
Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard V. Secord, who ran a secret network supplying weapons to Iran and the contras, told the Iran-contra committees that the cash expense payments were given to Lt. Col. Oliver North, then of the National Security Council staff, or were picked up in Europe by the DEA agents.
