Word is the Battenkill Railroad is about to resume passenger service.
That comes as something of a surprise if not a shock to the Urban Development Corp. and those close to the railroad's short, troubled history. But not to its controversial founder, apologist, visionary, sometime engineer and former president, Ronald Crowd. He is the Candide of railroad buffs: In spite of the worst coming down around his ears, this is the best of all possible worlds.
