Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle was in fair condition Monday after being hospitalized for chest pains, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Mantle, who lives in Dallas, became ill while signing autographs at a baseball card convention at Center City in Schenectady on Sunday. Mantle appeared with former teammate Whitey Ford.
According to Ed Keetz, the organizer of the convention, Mantle had a strep throat when he arrived in Schenectady Saturday but signed autographs both days.
