For a pitcher fighting for the fifth and final spot in the Yankees' starting rotation, it was not an encouraging outing.
Charles Hudson, the man seeking the job, ran into trouble in the sixth inning of Monday's 6-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves.
"I still made some good pitches in that inning," Hudson said.
To that point, he had made enough good pitches to limit the Braves to one run and four hits. He also had six strikeouts in the first five innings.
Hudson became unraveled in the sixth, though, as three singles, a walk, a hit batsmen and a sacrifice fly led to four runs.
