A federal judge, calling Marine Lt. Col. Oliver L. North's lawsuits premature, refused Thursday to halt an independent prosecutor's investigation of North and the Iran-contra scandal.
"The nation demands an expeditious and complete disclosure of our government's involvement in the Iran-contra affair," U.S. District Judge Barrington D. Parker declared in a 21-page opinion.
However, he said that North, "like any other potential criminal defendant," can challenge the constitutional authority of prosecutor Lawrence E. Walsh "if and when an indictment is entered" against him.
