After months of skirmishing over the addition of a sergeant to staff the Rensselaer County Court, county legislators Thursday reached what Legislature Chairman Joseph Manupella billed as a compromise.
County Executive John L. Buono, a Republican, vetoed three times a proposal to add a sergeant to the two full-time deputies staffing the courthouse, a move county Democrats said was legally required. Buono said Court Clerk Charles Haskins oversees the court, and the agreement had to be reached between Haskins and County Sheriff W. Warren McGreevy.
