New York state is acting to protect 365 rare, native plants that itconsiders to be in danger.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation has called a hearing here for Nov. 22 for comment on a proposal to protect the plants from being picked or damaged by officially listing them as endangered, threatened, vulnerable or rare.
"There has never been an official list of endangered plants before, and New York needs to give official recognition to them," said Michael J. Birmingham, a department official.
