A pattern emerges on an autumn afternoon at a scenic overlook here off the southbound lanes of the Taconic State Parkway.
Travelers step from cars, stretch, and marvel at the shapes and hues of the countryside surrounding them. Many snap photographs of farms and patches of forest hugging hills to the west. Others take only long lingering looks.
Occasionally, however, drivers stop only to leave something behind. For them, the overlook is a dumping ground.
