For Robert Plant, it has been eight years from Zep to "Zen,"and they've been years of change.

For 12 years previous, Plant was the lead singer for the aggressive, driving, innovative British rock band Led Zeppelin, which practically created its own musical genre.

Since Zep broke up in 1980 - the death of drummer John Bonham precluding any chance of reunion - Plant has been a solo act who has been remarkably free of nostalgia, the blessing or curse of music of the '80s, depending on how you look at it.
