For lunch-bucket athletes and weekend warriors, over-the-counter pain-killers keep the spark alive. Sore feet, aching knees, overused and abused shoulders all benefit.
Aspirin, in particular, has been called a wonder drug. It reduces fever, pain and swelling, and new studies suggest aspirin also lowers the risk of heart attack. But be careful, say the experts. Abuse of aspirin and other supermarket analgesics may cause serious medical problems.
