The tragic story of Oedipus, a man who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother, was a favorite theme for ancient Greek poets and writers. Sophocles, Euripides and Aeschylus all wrote stories in which the legendary king of Thebes played a part.
Now those surviving works - "Oedipus the King," "Antigone," "Oedipus at Colonus," "Pheonissae," "Supplicants" and "Seven Against Thebes" - have inspired an ambitious new play that will open Williamstown Theater Festival's 34th season Saturday
