Had Franklin Roosevelt only been more patient - had he but recognized the great wisdom in Henry Ashurst's advice to him - "Time is on your side; anno domini is your invincible ally" - he could have avoided the defeat for himself personally and for the Democratic party when the Senate rejected his court-packing plan, and still have accomplished his goal. Before elaborating on this point, it may be well to define then use of the word pack, which seems to me the best verb available for the activity involved despite its highly pejorative connotation.
