If you've ever had to cope with a flea infestation in your home, this time of year may have you cringeing.
But the outlook this year is good: Fleas do not flourish in the hot, dry weather we've had this summer, so their numbers are down.
The pest most people dread finding in their home is the dog or cat flea, an insect about a quarter of an inch long. Their bodies are flat and hard, their color brown. They have sucking mouth parts and long hind legs for jumping.
Adult fleas live on the blood of mammals and birds. Unlike ticks, most fleas do not commonly carry disease, but their nuisance value is high. ...
