While Capital District Democrats said Michael Dukakis showed strength on defense and other issues in his debate with George Bush on Sunday night, Republicans said the forum showed the vice president to be a moderate more reflective of mainstream American thought.
In predictable partisan fashion, both sides declared their preferred choice the winner.
"You're not calling an impartial viewer," said Harold Joyce, chairman of the Dukakis campaign in nine upstate counties. He noted, however, that a crowd of several hundred people gathered in Democratic headquarters in Albany were pleased with Dukakis' performance.
