The Times Union editorial, "Death of the (Sexual) revolution" (June 6), perpetuates a misleading view of the sexual revolution and its link to AIDS. It suggests that the "sexual revolution" promoted a recreatioal view of sex. Sex without responsibility becomes the new norm. This encourages promiscuous behavior which, in turn, has led to the AIDS crisis. The latter marks the end of an era and, no doubt, will prompt the return to a more traditional sexual ethic.
This is a comforting tale for those who are upset by the recent changes in our sexual conventions. Unfortunately, it is flawed by the absence of any factual evidence and by faulty reasoning.
