When Thelma Wade attended the Albany Academy for Girls, she walked to school - then on Washington Avenue - daily through Washington Park from her home "and didn't think a thing of it."

This year, Melissa Hagy, a senior at the Academy Road school, drove there from her family's East Greenbush home and led a life with fewer restrictions than the nearly Victorian ways Thelma Wade Holding remembers.

Hagy, the class president, and the rest of the class of '88, will receive diplomas Tuesday and join the ranks of the school's alumnae. It's a group Thelma Wade Holding has been part of since she graduated in 1926.
