Jay Belsky gave no sign of cowering under the barrage of intellectual tomatoes being hurled in his direction. "Some people say I am setting child care back 20 years," Belsky said. "But, right now, some families and children are being chewed up. Is that necessary?"
Belsky, a psychologist at Penn State University, has ignited a fiery debate over infant child care. Over the last nine months, Belsky has published articles that assert that non-maternal day care for more than 20 hours a week for infants under a year old is a "risk factor."
