A key committee of the Health Systems Agency of Northeastern New York approved two Capital District hospitals and one in Cooperstown to perform expensive cardiac bypass surgery.
St. Peter's in Albany, Ellis in Schenectady and Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown received the recommendation from the HSA's Central Review Advisory Group to provide the surgery, which the hospitals' officials argued will fill a pressing need. Patients have died while waiting for the surgery, they say.
