Two weeks after moving to Albany, Carol Wallace noticed that the League of Women Voters - a group she had joined in Eugene, Ore. - was about to hold a meeting.
"I attended, and it was like seeing old friends," she recalls. "I guess the same type of women join the league. I was off and running."
That was 20 years ago. Wallace's longtime activity in the Albany County league helped transform her as a citizen.
