Jan. 26--Southbury, Conn. -- As usual, the Waterbury Regional Chamber's annual Harold Webster Smith Awards Breakfast attracted many VIPs from the Greater Waterbury business community.
But the 10th annual awards breakfast, attended by about 200 people Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, will likely be best remembered for who wasn't there.
Elizabeth "Copey" Smith, who died in November, was the widow and most trusted adviser of Harold Webster Smith, the man who founded First Federal Savings & Loan, the precursor to Webster Financial Corp., in Waterbury in 1935.
