The state Department of Transportation is preparing for a public hearing on a controversial proposal to build a bridge on Lincoln Avenue over the Conrail tracks.
The hearing is a key step in the approval process, which opponents hope to use to stop construction or alter the plans.
The proposed $1.9 million bridge would eliminate a potentially hazardous grade crossing, according to DOT officials. But local residents see the bridge as an invitation for more traffic to use residential Lincoln Avenue as a shortcut from Central Avenue to Crossgates Mall.
