Honduran jets fired rockets Thursday at a Nicaraguan army command base near the tense frontier with Honduras where the Sandinistas are battling U.S.-backed contra rebels, U.S. and Nicaraguan officials said.
The air strike came after Honduras sent troops toward the border to repel Nicaraguan soldiers who allegedly entered Honduras in pursuit of the contras. At the same time, the first of about 3,200 U.S. troops ordered to Honduras to support the government began arriving at Palmerola Air Base.
