To help relieve a shortage of nursing home beds in Schenectady County, the state Health Department this week approved an additional 100 beds in the county.
Department spokesman Faith Schottenfeld said Friday the decision does not mean the beds will be open immediately, only that they will be available pending applications by qualified nursing homes and the granting of federal funds.
A new facility - Hilltop Manor - has applied for 40 beds and has passed the first stage of the approval process, she said.
