The Capital District's first in-vitro fertilization clinic will open at Memorial Hospital next month, hospital officials announced Tuesday.
In-vitro fertilization is a decade-old technology to help otherwise infertile couples have children. Human eggs are joined with a sperm in a laboratory dish to form embryos, which are implanted in the woman's uterus.
"Albany is 10 years behind the times, but we are there," said Dr. Edgar Henriques, co-director of the clinic.
About 30 area couples are already waiting to be treated at Memorial's clinic, with an additional two to five people inquiring every day, ...
