Dolores Gross of Clifton Park was barely 2 when she discovered how much fun it was to perform. At charity affairs in Brooklyn, long before formal lessons began at age 4, she would sing at the drop of a musical cue.
She didn't know the name Irving Berlin when she belted out one of his songs then, but she does now. A musical historian, she has studied Berlin's life, learned how he made words and music mesh and fulfilled her wish to understand the music she was singing.
Berlin will celebrate his 100th birthday May 11. To mark the event, Gross will present a 90-minute musical history of the lyricist-composer at ...
