Jan. 27--BETHLEHEM -- In the foyer of their home, Ann Edie and Panda play a game of fetch. Each time Edie tosses the fabric disc, Panda clomps across the floor to grab it. Then she turns around and gently puts it into Edie's hand.
This is no ordinary game of fetch, and Edie and Panda are no ordinary human-animal partnership. Panda is a miniature guide horse, and Edie is her blind handler. Since the spring of 2003, Panda has helped Edie navigate stairs, city sidewalks and suburban streets.
Edie calls her partnership with Panda an experiment, and so far the experiment is working. And with an expected life span of 30 to 40 ...
