Jan. 27--Unskilled workers will continue to dampen the state's economy until the "skills gap" is bridged, said Deidre Myers, director of Research and Economic Analysis at the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. Despite the gap, the economy is growing, Myers said, speaking to more than 300 people Friday at the Edmond Economic Development Authority's 2007 forecast at the University of Central Oklahoma. A recent survey of state employers found that a significant number had difficulty hiring employees with the skills and the education requirements needed.
