MOUNT MICA UPDATE: Exciting as it is, there's more in the news than the Tucson Show. Gary Freeman, owner of Mount Mica and Coromoto Minerals, LLC, provided the following account of a 2006 find:
Mining by Coromoto Minerals resumed
at Mount Mica in Oxford County, Maine,
in March 2006 after a successful 2005
effort (see Rocks & Minerals, November/December
2005). After a winter of
cogitation, we made a decision to mine
in a new direction. Our work convinced
us that the pegmatite was laid into the
hill of Mount Mica in a series of upward
steps from west to east. We hoped the
change we made would intercept the
