More than 8,500 fans and admirers of James Brown filled the James Brown Arena in the singer's hometown of Augusta, GA, for a final joyful and sometimes tearful farewell to the soul legend.
At times, the service felt like one of James Brown's funky, soulful, high-energy concerts with showstopping performances by his band "The Soul Generals" and other musical guests. The band played many of the tunes that made James Brown a household name including Get Up, (I Got You) I Feel Good, Soul Power and It's A Man's Man's Man's World.
