The funeral of Ahmet Ertegun, who co-founded Atlantic Records and helped form the careers of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones, was held in his birthplace, Istanbul, Turkey. He was 83.
Ertegun's death was the result of a brain injury he suffered after falling and hitting his head backstage at a Rolling Stones concert. The pioneering music executive, who was hospitalized and later slipped into a coma, died at New York Presybyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center.
