REDMOND, WASH.--Nintendo of America is banking on a gorilla and two new videogame machines to bolster its position in the videogame industry over the next year.
Last year, Nintendo fell behind Sega in the 16-bit market, with Sega's Genesis system capturing 57% of hardware sales. As a result, Nintendo has worked hard to burnish its image.
In a recent interview at Nintendo's headquarters, marketing VP Peter Main conceded that "there were errors on our part," in terms of the company's output of top-notch software last year.
But in 1994, Main and his colleagues say, the company came out swinging.
