AT $649, TOSHIBA'S SATELLITE M115-S1061 is a perfectly acceptable basic productivity machine, but weak battery life makes this fixed-configuration model less than roadworthy.
The M115-S1061 is solid on some fronts, among them appearance. The machine looks sharp for a budget notebook, with a slate-gray body and a silver-and-black interior. At 5.2 pounds, it's also lighter than similarly sized systems. The 14.1-inch wide-screen LCD features a sharp 1,280x800 resolution. You can play DVDs or CDs without booting up the OS, using Toshiba's Express Media Player.
