A District Court in Washington D.C. recently granted Safari Club International's request to defend against a challenge to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's regulation exempting captive populations of three species of exotic antelope from Endangered Species Act restrictions.
The USFWS has determined that three antelope species--scimitar-horned oryx, addax, and dama gazelle--are endangered and dwindling in their wild ranges. The USFWS, however, simultaneously adopted a special rule excluding captive-bred populations of these species from the ESA prohibitions.
