THE MEMORY OF EMOTIONAL STIMULI IN OLDER ADULTS was the primary subject of our study. Although considerable research exists regarding the effect of emotional stimuli on memories of younger adults (Christianson, 1992), few researchers have examined the emotion-memory relationship in older adults. The results of the studies involving older adults have been mixed, with some showing emotion to have less impact on older adults' memories (Cohen, Conway, & Maylor, 1994; Comblain, D'Argembeau, Van der Linden, & Aldenhoff, 2004; Turk Charles, Mather, & Carstensen, 2003), no difference (Denburg, Buchanan, Tranel, & Adolphs, 2003; Kensinger, Brierley, Medford, Growdon, & Corkin, ...
