Jan. 31--I remember there was a cape, although I may be making that up. The first time I met Elizabeth Tashjian, she swooped down the stairs of her Old Lyme mansion to greet me, and I was immediately in her thrall.
She had that effect on generations of the curious who would wander into her home-based Nut Museum and rediscover the wheel that was Elizabeth, a true original. A classically trained artist, the Nut Lady (she preferred Nut Visionary or Nut Culturalist) collected nuts. She painted them. She made funny, suggestive sculptures from them. And she trumpeted herself and them onto "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson." ...
