Jan. 28--The world has experimented with SEZs quite differently. Yet, the concept has travelled a long way from its modest size of 80 projects in 30 countries in 1970 to over 3000 zones today which are being experimented in 120 countries across the globe.
Interestingly, India has never been a laggard in adopting the policy. Significantly, India was the first country in Asia to adopt the model by establishing export processing zones.
