Jan. 31--Corey Phillips devotes time to making good grades in school and beautiful music on the violin. But these don't compare to his love for figure skating.
"I like challenges," the 11-year-old said. "I feel good just on the ice."
His grandmother, Charlene Plymyer, puts it this way: "He eats, drinks and breathes skating."
Corey's fascination with figure skating is shared by others in Erie.
Enthusiasts say skating remains popular in Erie and throughout the region, though the expense of competition and the draw of the nearby Jamestown, N.Y., arena might affect the number of competitive skaters.
