Feb. 1--When the Acequia de Canada de Ancha in Chimayo needed to alert its 200 members about an important meeting in early January, the commissioners advertised it in their usual way by posting fliers. But ditch member Belinda Bowling didn't think the fliers were good enough. An Ohio transplant relatively new to New Mexico's acequia culture, she said many ditch members don't go to the Chimayo store or post office. She said she mailed out notices of the meeting to 1,100 residents. Only four people had shown up for the December meeting before the mailing, Bowling claimed.
