Balaton has literally hundreds of private establishments, weekend cottages and individual and family lodgings available. Often these can more than compete on price with some of the finest hotels. Go through Tourinform, which has an up-to-date listing, and can often make short-term, short-notice arrangements as well as long-term arrangements. Some homes and cabins have every convenience, including satellite television and pools. Some may not be so luxurious, but the locals are on the whole extremely helpful, and often have a passable knowledge of English. We have not listed cottages as there are so many and such a wide variety.
