There has been enormous growth in the academic field of entrepreneurship. This has been reflected in number of courses; Landstrom reported 2200 just in the United States (Landstrom, 2005, p. 4). It is also evident in the number of university-based centers for entrepreneurship (more than 90), chaired professorships (more than 400), and academic journals (more than 40) (Katz, 2005). These statistics primarily reflect developments in the United States. There have been, of course, similar developments in many other countries (Landstrom, 2005, pp. 95-129). Most of this development has occurred in the past 20-25 years, about half of a professional's working life.
