San Antonio-based H-E-B aimed to create a Mexican village environment in its new Latino-focused format MI TIENDA, Spanish for "my store," opened in Pasadena, TX on Oct. 3. The 63,000-sq. ft. Mi Tienda, decorated with Mexican-style tile and statues of mariachi musicians, is staffed by 352 Spanish -speaking employees. It features produce, meat, seafood and other hard-to-find ingredients used to create authentic Mexican meals favored by the city's growing Hispanic population. Latinos comprise 70% of the residents who live within three miles of the store.
The store's restaurant area will serve traditional Mexican dishes of pipian chicken and Cuban tortas. An ...
