Feb. 5--A proposal by state environmental officials to restrict horseback riding on state-owned trails to posted areas has raised the ire of Connecticut's thriving horse-riding community. More than 100 horse owners and riders are expected to arrive by the busload today to voice their opposition at a public hearing at state Department of Environmental Protection headquarters in Hartford. The hearing starts at 7 p.m.
"This kind of caught us by surprise and we're not happy about it," said Amy Stegall, a Stafford horse owner and president of the Connecticut Horse Council. "We don't feel we should be singled out as a group."
