Feb. 2--A Senate bill, tailored to affect the outcome of a contentious land battle between two Utah cities, will be reconsidered today as lawmakers try to resolve concerns about how the measure could impact the rest of the state.
At issue are 80 acres of ancient Lake Bonneville bench land above the gravel pits along Beck Street within the northern edge of Salt Lake City. Owned since 1950 by adjoining North Salt Lake -- a south Davis County city of 10,400 residents -- Utah's capital has zoned it as open space.
SB130's sponsor, Sen. Dan Eastman, acknowledges that his bill is a "single-item piece of legislation."
