FACING THE THREAT of legislative hearings, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey on January 9 called off a pilot sponsorship that would have GEICO paying $1.6 million for a two-year deal to be the exclusive advertiser on the George Washington Bridge. "Ultimately, the agency determined that the benefits of this sponsorship were not worth the potential negative impact on our long-term goals or reputation as responsible stewards of the region's infrastructure," said Stephen Sigmund, chief of public and government affairs, Port Authority of N.Y.& N.J. in a statement.
