Feb. 6--Sometimes, middle schools get overlooked.
The focus often can fall on the in-betweens -- increasing early childhood education and reinventing high schools.
While work still needs to be done in both of those areas, a growing number of school systems are broadening the scope of discussion to include middle grades, where a boost in academic performance is needed.
"In order for high schools to get better, middle schools have to be strong," said Lisa Gross, spokeswoman for the Kentucky Department of Education.
